Meaning & symbolism
An apple-green variety of chalcedony, a cryptocrystalline form of quartz coloured by trace nickel present as fine silicate inclusions such as kerolite and pimelite. It forms through the deep weathering of nickel-bearing serpentinite and other ultramafic rocks, and is found chiefly in Queensland and Western Australia, central Tanzania, Indonesia, Brazil and historically at Szklary in Poland.

How to use it
Carry a tumbled piece in a pocket for daily self-forgiveness work, or hold it over the heart during a short compassion meditation. It sits well beside prehnite for soft heart work and moss agate for slow recovery.
Cleansing & care
Chrysoprase fades in prolonged sunlight and heat, because heat drives off the small amount of water held in the chalcedony microstructure. Never display it on a windowsill and never charge it in direct sun. A brief rinse in water is safe, but skip salt and ultrasonic cleaners. Cleanse with smoke, sound or moonlight instead.
Questions & answers
Yes. Prolonged sunlight and heat dull the apple green, sometimes within a season on a sunny windowsill. Storing a faded piece with a little moisture often restores some depth of colour over weeks, though this is not guaranteed.
