Meaning & symbolism
Malachite is one of the most striking stones in any collection: vivid green banded in swirling light and dark rings, like the cross-section of an ancient tree. A copper mineral, it has been mined for pigment, jewellery and ornament since antiquity.
Traditionally it is a stone of transformation and protection, reached for during periods of change, when old patterns are being released and something new is taking shape. It is associated with the heart chakra and the courage to grow.
Malachite's energy is considered powerful and direct, which is why it is often called a stone for the bold rather than the faint-hearted.

How to use it
Keep malachite where you are working through change, such as a desk or a journaling space, as a reminder of your intention to grow. Hold it during reflection to focus on what you are ready to release.
Many people wear it as jewellery, though its softness means it is best kept for occasions rather than daily knocks.
Cleansing & care
Important: malachite is a copper stone and is toxic when its dust or unsealed surface meets water, so never make a crystal elixir with it or soak it, and always wash your hands after handling raw pieces. Keep it dry.
It is also soft (3.5–4 on the Mohs scale) and scratches easily. Cleanse it only with sound or moonlight, and store it away from harder stones.
