Meaning & symbolism
Sunstone is a feldspar carrying thousands of microscopic metallic platelets, of hematite, goethite or, in Oregon material, native copper. When the light catches them together the stone flashes gold and copper, an effect called aventurescence. Older texts call it heliolite, from the Greek for sun stone.
In crystal tradition sunstone means joy, vitality, personal power and earned abundance. It is linked to the sacral and solar plexus chakras and to the sun itself, and it is most often reached for by people who have quietly made themselves smaller: the reliable one, the person who apologises before speaking. Where moonstone, its close feldspar relative, asks you to receive and wait, sunstone is associated with action, visibility and warmth you do not have to apologise for.

How to use it
Keep a tumbled piece where your hand will find it during the day, a pocket, a desk, a ring you glance at in meetings, and touch it before you say the thing you were about to swallow.
Work with it on flat mornings and stalled projects rather than for calm. Many people pair it with moonstone as a daylight and night rhythm, sunstone by day for action and moonstone in the evening for rest.
Cleansing & care
Sunstone is 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale and cleaves cleanly in two directions, so the real risk is chipping rather than fading. A brief rinse and an immediate dry is fine, but skip long soaks, salt water, ultrasonic cleaners and steam. Unlike amethyst, its colour comes from stable metallic inclusions, so daylight will not bleach it. Store it apart from harder stones and charge it in morning sunlight.
Questions & answers
Sunstone is traditionally reached for when confidence has dimmed: before being visible, during a stalled stretch, or when generosity has become depletion. It is a motivating stone rather than a calming one.
