Meaning & symbolism
Kunzite is the pink to violet variety of spodumene, a lithium aluminium silicate of the pyroxene group, coloured by traces of manganese. It forms in granite pegmatites, often as large flattened striated crystals, and is strongly pleochroic. It was named in 1903 after the Tiffany gemmologist George Frederick Kunz. Main sources are Afghanistan, Pakistan, Brazil, Madagascar, Nigeria and Pala, California.
