The 7 Chakras and Their Crystals

A clear, beginner-friendly map of the seven chakras, the colours and themes of each, and the crystals traditionally paired with them.

The 7 Chakras and Their Crystals

The chakra system describes seven energy centres running from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Each is associated with a colour, a theme and a set of stones, and matching a crystal to a chakra is simply a way of focusing your attention on the part of life you want to tend.

Most people pair stones with chakras by colour, which makes this an easy and intuitive place to begin.

The seven chakras and their stones

  • Root (Muladhara). Red, base of the spine. Safety, stability and belonging. Stones: black tourmaline, red jasper, hematite, smoky quartz. Reach for these when you feel scattered or ungrounded.
  • Sacral (Svadhisthana). Orange, lower abdomen. Creativity, pleasure and emotional flow. Stones: carnelian, orange calcite, tiger eye. For reigniting inspiration and warmth.
  • Solar Plexus (Manipura). Yellow, upper abdomen. Confidence, willpower and personal power. Stones: citrine, pyrite, yellow jasper. For motivation and self-belief.
  • Heart (Anahata). Green and pink, centre of the chest. Love, compassion and connection. Stones: rose quartz, green aventurine, rhodonite, emerald. For softening self-criticism and opening to others.
  • Throat (Vishuddha). Blue, throat. Truth, voice and clear expression. Stones: sodalite, lapis lazuli, aquamarine, turquoise. For speaking honestly and being heard.
  • Third Eye (Ajna). Indigo, between the brows. Intuition, insight and inner vision. Stones: amethyst, labradorite, lapis lazuli. For clarity and trusting your instincts.
  • Crown (Sahasrara). Violet and white, top of the head. Spiritual connection and higher awareness. Stones: clear quartz, selenite, amethyst. For meditation and a sense of the bigger picture.

A simple way to begin

Choose the one chakra that matches what is on your mind right now, pick a single stone for it, and sit quietly with it for a few minutes. You do not need a full set of seven to start. One well-chosen stone is enough.

A contemplative tradition

The chakra map is a contemplative, symbolic tradition, not a medical one. Its real gift is focus: it gives a vague feeling a name, a colour and a small ritual to work with.
